CRX electric retracting mirrors install.

Ok here is all the stuff you need

  1. Pair of mirrors
  2. Relay unit that controls mirror retracting function (Relay)
  3. Mirror control switch (Switch)
  4. Additional pin to add into your stock mirror switch connector (Pin)
  5. Female connector for retracting mirror wiring (Connector 1)
  6. Female connector for retracting mirror wiring (Connector 2)
  7. You will also need to get hold of some additional auto electric cable and a small terminal block for making connections, and an inline fuse holder and 10A fuse.

Ok here we go...........

Firstly pop out your old dash switch and disconnect the plug from the back of it. You will have to turn the plug upside down as it connects the other way up into the new switch.  You have to add an additional pin (see 4 above) into the connector.  This pin is the one that carries the signal to the relay when you press the button.  It connects into the spare location on the far right of the stock plug see pic below.

This pin should be connected to the wire from the relay that I have marked “to switch”, the wires are the same colour.

Next we will set about wiring up the relay.  I have marked the connections on the relay as follows:

  1. Close L & R
  2. + Power
  3. To Switch
  4. – Ground
  5. Open L & R

The +Power (2) should be connected to a spare accessory connector on the fuse box (This should be one that only works when the key is turned), with the inline fuse holder and 10A fuse in between.  Ground (4) can go to any suitable ground, (I have mine connected to one of the bolts of the steering column).  To Switch (3), should already be done. Close L&R and Open L&R will take a bit of explaining.

The two mirrors work off a shared signal from the relay unit, so you need to join the wires that you will be running to the left and the right mirrors, see pic below

It is not too clear from the picture but what you need to do is join the two cables that will run to each mirror into the terminal block so that the signal to open is sent to the two mirrors at the same time and the same with the signal to close.

Ok now you should have the relay all wired up.

Now you need to wire in the mirrors on each of the doors.

[It is easiest if you take the door cards off, if you haven’t done this before give me a shout and I will give you a few tips.]

Plug A is a three pin plug that controls the movement of the mirror glass, this will pulg right into your stock connector.

Plug B is on the new mirror that takes Connector 1 (or Connector 2 for the other side). Connector 1 should be joined to the wires that you have run from the relay unit.

You will have to experiment with the way they join to make sure both the mirrors move in and out at the same time, change the terminal they connect to to get the mirrors to move in and out the same direction. If the wires to Plug B are wired wrong, when you press the button one mirror will close and the other will open, just swap them around to get the mirrors in sequence.

The relay box clips on to the steering column, but the clip is missing from yours, maybe just use a cable tie to secure it somewhere out of the way.

That is about it really, give me a shout if you need any help at all.
