Sting Antenna Installation - JDM Honda CRX 1.5x, or other CRX
without a sunroof
Firstly
make sure that you get a good antenna. Prices range from £10
- £40, buy the best you can afford, in the long run it will
be worth it. All the ones I looked at had plenty of cable for
the job, bar one that used an extension cable, which is not
a good idea, as you will loose some reception quality.
Required

bit (see antenna package for correct size)
Philips
screw driver
Small
spanner (see antenna package for correct size)
Firstly
read the instructions on the package so that you understand
which side of the roof the washers and fasteners are to be used.
- Then
remove the cover off the interior light above the back seat.
- Remove
the Philips head screw, which secures the light in place.
- Now
you can prize the light out (it is held by 4 little lips,
2 on each of the longest sides of the light)
- With
the light unclipped you can remove the plastic trim which
runs along the back of the roof, it is held in by 6 clips
which run the length of the trim and 6 lips on the boot
side of the trim.
- Now
that you have the trim removed you can pull the roof card
down a little to see the supports of the roof and decide
the best place to drill for the antenna.
- Keep
the roof card propped down away from the roof using a cigarette
packet or similar sized object (so the drill bit does not
hit the card) (take care not to crease the roof card).
- You
are now ready to drill the hole for the antenna.
- Double
check that you have the location for the drilling correct,
mine is about 2" from the rear window squirter.

While
standing in the driver or passenger side door you should
be able to reach over far enough to drill the hole, make
sure that you are in-line with the window squirter to keep
it all in a nice line.

Drill
the hole, and test fit the antenna to make sure it will
fit securely.
Now
you can start fitting the cable:
- Starting
from the antenna, attach the cable loosely to the securing
nut on the antenna, you will tighten it up later.
- Then
run the cable across the back of the car just under the
roof card.
- You
will be able to squeeze the cable between the roof card
& the trim along the passenger door by lifting one edge
of the trim and pushing the cable between the two.
- The
trim along the edge has just enough of a channel to accommodate
the cable.
- When
you get to the windscreen it gets a little trickier.
- You
will have to remove the edge cover from the side of the
door (the black U shaped cover which runs around the door
frame.)
- This
black edge cover just pushes on so you can just pull it
back.
- Now
you have to unclip the continuation of the plastic trim
from the pillar, which runs down the windscreen, just enough
so that you can feed the cable through it. (in effect what
you are doing is swapping the sides of the trim that the
cable is running under)
- You
should be able to squeeze a finger or two under the trim
and pop it back (it is held in by little metal clips which
come loose under a bit of pressure)
- Now
put the cable under this trim and down the side of the dashboard.
- You
will notice that there is a gap just wide enough to get
the cable between the dash and the side of the doorframe.
- Once
you have the cable that far you can clip the trim back on
and put the U shaped edge trim back on to make sure it all
sits neatly around the door area.
- Now
lie upside down on the passenger seat and feed the cable
up behind the glove box through the wires and stuff up there
so that it will not fall back down into the passenger foot
well.
- Now
unplug the old antenna from the back of your stereo and
plug in the new one.
- NOTE:
if you still have the original Double Din Jap stereo you
may need an adapter for the European antenna which you can
get from most good Car audio shops for about £1. Some of
the stereos have a 2 pin connector not the one pin your
new antenna will have.
- Now
you can go back to the back of the car.
- Make
sure that you have all the washers and fasteners in the
correct place then tighten up the antenna.
- Refit
the plastic trim and the interior light.
Congratulations
you are done!
